Wildlife Safety

Here are some tips for staying safe around wildlife.
- Don’t feed wildlife: Feeding wildlife can cause them to lose their fear of humans, which can lead to aggression or danger. It can also harm or kill animals, attract them to roadsides, and expose you to diseases like rabies and tick-borne diseases.
- Keep garbage away from wildlife: Use bear-proof bins to dispose of garbage.
- Keep pets leashed: Keep your pets leashed and supervised.
- Don’t run away from coyotes or foxes: Don’t run away when you see coyotes or foxes.
- Report illegal activity: You can report illegal activity and public safety issues on public land or in Provincial Parks by calling 310-LAND.
- Report injured animals: You can call the 24/7 Report A Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800 if an animal is injured and unable to move or poses a threat to public safety.
- Contact the St. Paul Fish & Game Association: The St. Paul Fish & Game Association works to protect and conserve wildlife in the area.
The Alberta Wildlife Act protects and conserves wild animals in Alberta. It also defines controls for hunting, trapping, and possession of wildlife.
